    Chemistry

Universidad de Alcalá, M.Sc. in Chemistry (2003)
University of Amsterdam (The Netherlands), Ph.D. in Chemistry (2008)

Dr. Durán is a patent adviser in the chemistry department. Her practice is focused on patent prosecution and opinion work in the areas of inorganic chemistry and nanomaterials.

Before she joined ABG in 2011, Dr. Durán was an innovation consultant for Inspiralia Tecnologías Avanzadas in Madrid in the areas of material science, industrial processes and energy. From 2009-2010, she was a postdoctoral researcher at the Instituto Catalán de Investigaciones Químicas in Tarragona, where she developed metal oxide and zeolite catalysts for the Deacon process in collaboration with Bayer MaterialScience AG, and, in 2008, at University of Amsterdam spin-off Yellowdiesel B.V., where she worked on the optimization of a pilot process for biofuel production. Dr. Durán’s thesis at the University of Amsterdam (2004-2008) concerned synthesis and application of nano-structured metal catalysts and included stays at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot (2007), working on characterization of chiral materials by circular dichroism spectroscopy, and at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2006), working on synthesis of metal-organic solid composites.  Before starting her thesis, from 2002-03, she worked in the Coordination and Bio-inorganic Chemistry group (MCBIM) at the University of Leiden, in the areas of catalysis and supramolecular chemistry.

She has published papers in peer-reviewed journals (Nature Chemistry Journal, Advanced Synthesis & Catalysis Journal, European Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics Journal, etc).

Dr. Durán is a native speaker of Spanish and is fluent in English and Dutch.
